AWNINGS PLUS AWNINGS – CARE & MAINTENANCE
Awnings Plus awnings will give you and your family many years of shelter in your outdoor area, provided simple care and maintenance instructions are followed.
Regular maintenance inspections will help to identify and fix any issues before they could become serious. A six monthly visual inspection is recommended for your awning, particularly before and after summer. Maintenance of the fabric is needed to achieve a longer life expectancy and a better look.
The awning fabric and the structure are not designed to support water pooling on the fabric or excessive windy conditions. Ensure the awning is retracted during heavy rain or wind periods; any damage caused by these conditions are not covered by the warranty.
For awnings operated by a crank handle, ensure the handle is stored inside when not in use, do not leave outside attached to the awning.
1 – Brush off any loose dirt (which can lead to the formation of mildew).
2 – Clean your awning fabric with a mild neutral detergent and a soft cloth, or if necessary use a soft bristle brush.
3 – For localised stains clean with a neutral detergent mixed with lukewarm water (maximum 38C).
4 – Rinse with water.
If material is regularly exposed to damp conditions, extra cleaning is recommended.
DO leave the fabric to dry completely before it is rolled up. If the awning has to be rolled up when the fabric is still wet, this can be air dried but never hot dried.
DO NOT use solvents or harsh detergents.
POWDER COATED / ANODISED ALUMINIUM – CARE & MAINTENANCE
To comply with warranty requirements and to extend the effective life of anodised/powder coated finishes, very simple maintenance and regular visual inspections should be scheduled and undertaken.
In general, anodised or powder coated aluminium in urban areas should be cleaned every three months and every six months in rural areas. In industrial and marine environments (within 1km of the sea), monthly cold water washing as well as six monthly washes, with warm water & detergent, is necessary.
1 – Carefully remove any loose deposits with a wet sponge.
2 – Wash down using a soft brush (non abrasive) and a mild household detergent solution to remove dust, salt, dirt and other deposits.
3 – Anodised finishes with greasy deposits or hard to remove grime, should be cleaned with a soft cloth dipped in white spirit, turpentine or kerosene, then wiped with a dry rag.
4 – Rinse off with lots of clean fresh water.
DO remove obvious deposits as they occur.
DO NOT use abrasive steel wool, scrapers, scouring liquids or powders to remove paint splashes – these will damage your anodised/powder coating.
DO NOT use aggressive solvents, thinners, petrol etc, on powder coating as these solvents will attack gloss levels and reduce its life expectancy.
DO NOT let any solvents used on anodised finishes come in contact with any rubber components as they can degrade them.
DO NOT expose your anodised/powder coatings to excessive heat, heaters or hot air guns – these may damage the coating.
AWNINGS PLUS INSECT SCREENS – CARE & MAINTENANCE
Awnings Plus insect screens protect you from annoying bugs when your doors and windows are open in summer. With simple maintenance they will give you years of worry free service.
Regular care and maintenance is recommended to maintain the efficiency and longevity of your insect screens. For best results, thoroughly clean screens at least once a year, or more often in areas with high pollutants or high concentrations of sea air. When not in use, retractable screens should be retracted into their protective housing on the screen sides. Ensure there are no creases in the screen when retracting. Retractable Insect screens are not designed for windy conditions and should be safely retracted as you would for a deck awning, umbrella etc.
Insect screens are designed for insect control in your home and are not intended for the retention/security of animals or children, inside or outside your home. They are not designed for windy conditions, so windows or doors should not be left open on windy days.
FRAME: The care & maintenance of the insect screen aluminium frames is outlined below.
Spot cleaning on screens is best done with a vacuum cleaner using a soft brush head, removing much of the surface dirt. Use the vacuum cleaner and nozzle head to clean the screen tracks, removing dirt and debris.
ANNUAL SCREEN CLEAN
1 – Use a vacuum cleaner or brush to remove loose dirt.
2 – Clean the tracks and frame with warm soapy water.
3 – If possible remove screens for cleaning outside. Mesh cleaning is best done with a gentle rinse from the garden hose, then a gentle scrub with a soft bristle brush and warm soapy water, followed by a rinse with the hose.
4 – For non removable screens, rinse with a sponge and fresh water and clean as above.
DO NOT use solvents or harsh detergents on any of the insect screen parts, frame or mesh.
AWNINGS PLUS SECURITY SCREENS – CARE & MAINTENANCE
Awnings Plus Security Screen has been designed, manufactured and installed to the highest possible standard, to give you years of trouble free service.
The locking devices which are incorporated in these products are complex mechanisms which require basic maintenance from time to time, to ensure continued trouble-free operation. This is especially important if they are not directly protected from the weather, or if they are frequently cleaned.
Door locks and wheels need to have their moving parts lubricated occasionally and an aerosol based lubricant with a nozzle, is ideal. To lubricate door locks, hold the handles down and spray into the latch bolt cavity and operate a few times to spread the lubricant around the moving parts. Door handle pivots and hinge pivot pins can be lubricated where they fit into the lock body. It is not recommended to spray directly into the key slots of lock cylinders or onto the key. However, applied sparingly, dry graphite powder is a suitable lubricant for lock cylinders.
FRAME: The care & maintenance of the security screen aluminium frames is outlined below.
To keep the finish looking like new, use a mild detergent in warm water applied with a sponge or soft-bristled brush, followed by a thorough rinsing with clean water. A quick wipe over with an absorbent cloth chamois will prevent water marks from forming.
DO NOT under any circumstances use scourers pads, abrasive based cleaners or caustic solution as these will cause permanent damage to the finish.

Awnings Plus Roller grilles & Roller shutters are a high quality product designed to you give you many years of dependable security, for your home or business.

Discontinue use if there is any visible damage and fix the issue immediately.
Over time Roller grilles and Roller shutters can get dirty, this does not reduce their usability but can impact on their appearance.
